Black cloth, color frontis, black/white photos and drawings, 355pp including index. Dustjacket has color illustration of Aldridge on front panel. Aldridge was a famous black tragedian of the 19th Century, a great actor who was one of the first blacks to play white Shakespearean roles. He was born in New York, but adopted England as his homeland, and traveled widely in England, Europe, and Russia. Book has some wear and ink felt-tip notation on front and back endpapers. DJ is chippped and worn but is protected in mylar.
